I had tumescent lipo on arms/inner and outer thighs/flanks/and abdomen. Everything is ok except my belly which is extremely hard bloated looking and very bumpy, feels like thick lines under my skin. One love handle is much pudgier then the other. I am concerned that this will not go away in time. I had very little fat to remove and my stomach is bigger and uglier then it was before. It's only been 2 weeks. The garment is pretty loose, I have massage once a week, walk about 3.5 miles a day.
Answer: Swelling If your garment is loose, ask for a smaller size. Massage can be very helpful with managing the swelling. However, you are very early in the healing process and will take up to 6 months to completely heal.

Answer: Hardness You are very early in your recovery process with only being a few weeks out from your procedure. Swelling is usually the worst at this point in the recovery process. The majority of swelling after liposuction usually decreases over the first three months so it is not surprising that you still have swelling. You can also still have some minor swelling for up to a year following a procedure. In order to aid in reducing the swelling faster, continue wearing a compression garment on your lower half. Since your garment is loose, I recommend following up with your physician to get you another garment that fits you better and provides you with proper compression to aid in your recovery. Some of my patients have found it helpful to use a rolling pin over the affected areas twice daily to even out the bumpyness and help to redistribute the remaining fat. Most people notice that the hardness and swelling resolve with time so be patient and if you are still experiencing problems after a year contact your physician to determine their specific recommendations. If you notice an increase in swelling or pain over time be sure to follow up with your plastic surgeon.
