How soon can I get zoom whitening after cleaning?

We recommend a cleaning within 6 months of an in office whitening procedure.  At the whitening visit a quick polish and removal of plaque is completed to allow for a clean tooth surface to be whitened.There are times when we can complete an in office whitening directly following a dental cleaning.  This can only be accomplished in a healthy mouth without the presence of gingivitis as gingivitis many times will lead to bleeding following a cleaning and protection of the gums would not be possible immediately after a cleaning.Hope the results come out fantastic!  

Teeth whitening is most effective on clean teeth.  However, polishing pastes used by dental hygienists usually contain oils that can prevent good penetration of the whitening gel active ingredients.  The hygienist can either skip the polishing step (polishing is not necessary for proper cleaning) or switch to a paste that does not contain any oils.  Scheduling is a different matter and should be discussed with the dental office at the time of making your appointment.  Teeth whitening is a great way to improve your smile!

It's usually recommended that you do teeth cleaning prior to whitening so you can get the whitening gel to work most effective.  It is possible to whiten same day but if your gums are in bad shape i would recommend waiting a few days to allow them to heal.  Also, if you are going to whiten same day, I would advise to not use regular prophy paste that contains fluoride .  Instead use pumice to remove any surface stains first.  good luck with the whitening!  Make sure to not drink or eat anything that may cause staining for at least 2 weeks (ie. black tea, black coffee, red wine, berries, curry, etc).  Dr. A
