Thank you for your question. Reason for the "point" to the ears is because of a slight variation in the development of the cartilage that make up the ears. This is not an uncommon finding and most likely can be corrected through a surgery called an otoplasty. During this procedure an incision is made in the back of the year, where it is hidden. Then precise sutures, or stitches, are placed along the ear to reshape it. In your case, a small amount of the cartilage tissue may need to be removed as well. However, and in person consultation would be the best way to make this determination for the best options for you.I would suggest consulting with a board-certified facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who specializes in otoplasty. Here you have a full evaluation and be able to discuss her goals for surgery.I hope that this helps!–David Gilpin

Dear Cowboys2017, An otoplasty (or ear reshaping surgery) could help correct the shape of your ears. There are many different techniques that can be used, and most likely you would need some sutures with either scoring or removal of a little bit of cartilage, ideally through incisions on the back of the ear so they are hidden. These cases can be challenging so it is important to see a surgeon with a lot of experience with otoplasty. Best, Dr. Irvine
Thanks for the question and photos. Your ears appear to just have a slight variation in the cartilage appearance. On exam in the office, a board certified plastic surgeon can carefully assess if you need significant skin and cartilage reshaping or a more minor procedure. Most variants of the ear shape can be addressed surgically, including pointy ears.
