My wisdom teeth are coming in. Will this affect Invisalign treatment? (Photo)

I am on tray 20/33 and just noticed my bottom right wisdom tooth has begun to come in. Will this affect my treatment? One of the nurses at my orthodontist office said it wouldn't, but I just don't see how?

While the removal of the teeth may not be necessary for space creation, your aligners may have been fabricated without the possibility that there would be more teeth erupting.In other words, if the trays on you back teeth go all the way around the back molar, then the wisdom tooth could affect the proper seating of the tray.  This would be an issue that can be dealt with by cutting of the tray at the back. However, if the last tooth requires movement, cutting the tray could compromise this movement.

This is a tough question to answer without more information.  Removal of the wisdom teeth could help your treatment if part of the plan is to push the second molars back.  In this case yes, it would be advantageous to extract the wisdom teeth.  But if the plan doesn't rely on pushing the second molars back then the nurse is right it won't affect your treatment.  In any case, it looks as though the wisdom teeth should be removed..Good Luck
