Belladerm vs. Alloderm to create breast implant sling

Question

My PS informed me that during the pre-op he would be using belladerm instead of alloderm to create a breast implant sling. Is belladerm an inferior product? Does belladerm function as well as alloderm in implant revision surgery? Is belladerm as good as alloderm in longevity?

Hello!  Thank you for the question.  Both are human acellular dermal matrices. They are made from different manufacturers, both with excellent published results.  BellaDerm has been released for use in aesthetic surgery with informed consent from the donor for this purpose for cosmetic surgery.  BellaDerm and FlexHD are excellent and have provided fantastic results as well.

There is very little published clinical data on Belladerm, whereas Alloderm has a very long list of publications and scientific data. It is entirely possible that Belladerm would work just as well, but not much to go on in terms of comparing it to Alloderm.

Thank you for the question. I think that both products are made by reputable companies. Plastic surgeons have a longer history of using Alloderm.   Personally, I think that more important than the product utilized will be your plastic surgeon's experience level,  the use of good judgment, and expert execution of the procedure. Best wishes.

I personally have never heard of BellaDerm. I did Google it and it is a product available which is acellular dermal matrix. Alloderm has the longest track record of any acellular dermal matrix on the market. It is the most recommended and most used tissue matrix. It has over 100 publications documenting its use. Additionally, Alloderm has coding for insurance companies and Coverage and reimbursement from insurance companies. Alloderm provides conferences throughout the year for physicians to continue learning about the product and the newest surgical techniques available providing the safest possible environment
