It looks like you are there about to get a transplant with marks like that!  Best of luck.  If it turns out not to be enough hair when it grows in, you should seek another consult with either the same surgeon or another surgeon. 

There is no correct way to address hair loss.  Patients have different goals and expectations.  Doctors have different methods and opinions. Discuss your goals with your doctor when planning the surgery.

Daniel, the most I have done to date is 3100 with the SmartGraft FUE device, and I think this might be an excellent option for you.  The downtime is unchanged and the healing and pain definitely are less than with the strip technique according to my patients.  The drawback for some patients is the cost, but that is something for you to decide.  I am curious who drew the marks on your scalp.  Whatever your decision Daniel I do think you are a excellent candidate for FUE, especially with the hairstyle you have.  Good Luck, Dr. Schuster in Boca Raton Florida.

Graft estimate depend upon many factors including donor density availability and the thickness of each hair shaft.  I can not tell you what is in your best interest here
