2 years post tummy tuck with suture granulomas - what options do I have?

Hi I’m two years out post tummy tuck. I have two suture granulomas above my belly button. My plastic surgeon‘s options are to monitor to see any changes or to do surgery again by open up the incision line and remove them. Because of the pain I’ve been experiencing while I bloat, I asked for more option, she referred me to see pain management doctor. What options can this doctor do? I see no option of surgical excision

Thanks for your question. It does depend on where those granulomas are located and what your symptoms are realted to these. I am curious to know how these were diagnosed if they are located deeper than the skin scars. Whether they are in the scar in the skin around your belly button which is more easily accessed, or deeper in the muscle repair layer will impact what options you have. Suture granulomas are formed when cells useful in your body's healing process form a lump in the attempt to remove an irritant or persistent infection for example. If the granulomas are superficial - within the scar on the skin, a scar revision may be the most straightforward way to remove them. If located deeper, and associated with the suture used to correct rectus diastasis, then you may need to have your original incisions opened up so that your surgeon may access those sutures and remove the source of irritation causing the granulomas. Granulomas can go away on their own, and this process can take months to years.
