Why Aren't My Liposuction Incisions Healing After 2 Months? (photo)

Question

Hello i had liposuction on my flanks and lower back two months ago this left me with four open incision two in my lower back and two in my hip bones. My Ps reclosed them but they open back again he told me they are healing inside out and that we should leave them alone and to keep putting neosporin and cover them with a bandage and that is what I've been doing. I also clean them with antiseptic soap but to me they seem more open and deeper.

Following surgery, your surgical incision sites will go through a maturation process. For the first few months they will be red and possibly raised and/or firm. Some of this may be due to the multiple passes of the liposuction wand (cannula). Uncommonly it can indicate an infection. Some surgeons purposely leave the incisions open to close on their own. All acceptable techniques and they will eventually heal on their own. Follow your plastic surgeon's advice and have regular check ups  if concerned .As the scar matures, after 6-12 months, it becomes soft, pale, flat, and much less noticeable. You may experience numbness, tingling, burning, “crawling”, or other peculiar sensations around the surgical area. This is a result of the healing of tiny fibers which are trapped in the incision site. These symptoms will disappear. Some people are prone to keloids, which is an abnormal scar that becomes prominent. If you or a blood relative has a tendency to keloid formation, please inform the doctor. #liposuction #healing

Usually, after a few days, the incisions are closed after liposuction. I have not seen this occur. Is there some low grade infection? Is the skin damaged at those sites? Was a laser or heat source used? Is nutrition optimal? Any other medical conditions? Continued drainage from the sites? Thank you for your question. Typically, liposuction incisions will close several days after your procedure and be fully healed by 2 months. There maybe infection present or tissue damage from laser or ultrasound. It would be best to found up with your plastic surgeon for treatment and possible scar revision.
