How long after getting sclerotherapy do I need to wait to have a laser treatment?

I have had 3 sclerotherapy treatments with each being about a month apart. My last treatment was July 23rd. I am not pleased with the results. Some places look better, but some places look much worse. I have had laser treatments in the past and feel like it works much better. I would like to get a laser treatment soon. How long do I need to wait?

I find that lasers do not work as well as sclero but you can get the laser treatments as early as 2-3 weeks after the sclero.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question.Typically, sclerotherapy is used to treat the feeding veins and reticular veins and varicose veins. Once these have been injected or treated, you should wait 6 weeks before cosmetic laser work is done for the smallest of the spider veins (telngiectasias < 1 mm). BestDr Karamanoukian

Hello. In my experience, Sclerotherapy is a superior treatment for smaller leg veins, including blue reticular veins and spider veins.I always instruct my patients to wear medical support hose 30 mm Hg compression factor for at least 1-2 weeks after each treatment.Those who fail to do so, need more sessions as each individual treatment is not as effective.

I would recommend waiting 6 weeks after sclerotherapy before having laser vein treatment of the same veins.  Sclerotherapy takes about 6 weeks to see its results and for the treated areas to fully heal.

I feel sclerotherapy is superior to laser treatment for spider veins.  The problem is that sclerotherapy is a difficult skill to learn which is why lasers are used because it is so easy to do.  Experience is important.  Just as important is the type of medication and the concentration/strength.  Every person is different in terms of the medication required.  Even different areas of the body can require different medications or strengths.  I would wait 2-4 weeks as long as there are no areas of inflammation or bruising since the laser can make them darker.Hope this helps and take care.Dr Chang
