I have hypermobility Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, e.g my connective tissue is faulty. Can I have tumescent liposuction?

As mentioned above I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome which is an inherited connective tissue disorder. There are different types of Ehlers-Danlos dependent on which type of collagen is faulty, in hypermobile Ehler-Danlos joints and ligament, digestive tract and skin collagen can be affected. That said everyone's a bit different (even within families) and my skins always been ok. Would it be ok for me to have tumescent liposuction- microliposuction?

Ehlers Danlos is not an absolute contraindication to cosmetic surgery. However, appropriate precautions should be taken when considering operative intervention. There are numerous variants of connective tissue disorder and as such there are numerous precautions which need to be taken depending on the variant.With regards to your specific question, you may be a reasonable candidate for liposuction. This decision must be made on the basis of the specific qualities of your disorder. It is not merely a function of skin but also vascular fragility and joint hypermobility.As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Your medical doctor who is most familiar with your type of Ehlers-Danlos (ED) syndrome will be the one to tell if elective surgery is fine. Others with ED have had liposuction, and have done well.

The last time I checked there were 13 different forms of ED.  Most are restricted to joints causing hypermobility. However, there are more rare forms that can cause bruising, excessive scarring and wound healing problems.  If you have one of these more rare types then surgery may not be possible.  With the more common types that just affect the large joints then it may be possible.
