Liposuction of one area (abdomen) and fat transfer to butt. There would be no drains, and I would be under local anesthesia, not general. Is this okay, or do I need to wait to longer to fly, in your opinion as a physician?
Answer: I was told by my doctor I could fly 24 hours after a BBL, is that safe? Why not follow your PS's post operative guidelines? He/she is the one performing your surgery and will know if you can fly within 24 hours of your fat transfer from the abdomen to the buttocks under local anesthesia. There are no hard and fast rules on when to fly after this procedure. Most would recommend a week or two before flying. The main risk is related to development of a blood clot in the legs that can then migrate to the lungs. Sitting for long periods of time puts you at higher risk due to being stationary. Pressure on the fat, etc. are also possibilities.Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: I was told by my doctor I could fly 24 hours after a BBL, is that safe? Hello and Great Question. I appreciate the time you are spending researching this procedure. My name is Dr. Matthew J. Nykiel. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, a Fellowship Trained Cosmetic Surgeon, and a Butt Augmentation Specialist. I do not recommend getting a BBL under local anesthesia, we do all of our BBL's under general due to safety and the amount of time and work that is put into the procedure. I also recommend patients to stay in town, if flying, for at least one week because you will not be able to sit on your butt until a week after surgery and that will be while only when you are using a booty pillow. A booty pillow will be used 1 week after surgery up to 5 weeks total. I would recommend to have a consult with a board certified plastic surgeon before proceeding with surgery. I hope that helps! Best of Luck! Matthew J. Nykiel, MD #CoreAesthetic Butt Augmentation Specialist Liposuction Specialist Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Postoperative protocol Dear blaxkgirlsurg, every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Answer: I was told by my doctor I could fly 24 hours after a BBL, is that safe? Hello dear!! Thanks for the question and provided information as well. I recommend my patients to wait at least 10 days before flying back to home, and not to sit for more than 30 mins. every two hours, for the first 2 weeks. If you have any concerns, I suggest you to follow up close with your plastic surgeon. Hope this is helpful. Good luck :)
