Blue lips after surgery?

Question

I had my surgery 2 days ago and today I had blue lips and was shaking like I did when came out of surgery. Shaking is gone but still have blue lips? Is this serious?

I agree with Dr. Lepore. It is better to ask your surgeon. Many reasons for getting the blue coloration on your lips, it depends of the type of surgery you had, the length of the procedure, if at the time of the shaking you bite your lips, if you are taking a particular medication, etc.

That's a great question. I agree with the doctors below and think that you should contact your surgeon sooner rather than later since they know the exact procedure you underwent, which will better diagnose the problem.

There are a number of things that can cause the lips to appear blue after a surgery.  Some of these causes are not serious, but some may be.  Let your surgeon know about this situation.  They may want to examine you sooner than they had originally planned.  If you have any shortness of breath let your surgeon know immediately.
