I have puss in the area where the drain was removed. Is that normal? (photo)

My drains were removed 2 weeks ago after a tummy tuck/lipo in the flanks procedure. In one of the areas where the drain was I have a scab that has not healed with the appearance of puss around it. I call my ps and they are putting me on Bactrim DS, does this sound like normal procedure and does it look alarming? Also there seems to be a small bump at the end. Thank you for your time.

It is not normal to have pus at the drain site, however, often patients will diagnose themselves as having pus when in fact that yellow tissue can be part of the normal healing process.  It is referred to as fibrinous tissue or exudate and is not a sign of infection.  It is difficult to tell from your picture if this is indeed fibrinous exudate or something more concerning, like pus.  I would recommend seeing your plastic surgeon and having him/her evaluate. Instead of you asking for over the internet opinions which we all appreciate, why have you NOT gone and be seen by your surgeon??? The phone treatment sounds OK but in person examination ALWAYS better!
