Can it take a year for Ultherapy results?

Ultherapy, ThermiSmooth, ThermiTight, Pelleve, and other laser, radiofrequency, ultrasound and light source devices stimulate the body to make more collagen in dermal layer beneath the top layer of skin, the epidermis.  We know from excellent studies that wound healing can take up to 18 months and some of the principles of collagen synthesis after Ultherapy are similar to wound healing. The clinical results are usually seen to max at the 6-12 months post Ultherapy.

I have seen patients show improvement up to 9 months after an Ultherapy treatment, so it is possible to continue seeing improvement for a year after the treatment. However, the peak time to results is usually around 6 months. Keep in mind that most people need to do Ultherapy multiple times and the treatment works best when used in combination with other treatments. You may see improvement up to a year. Keep in mind, a combination approach would give the most improvement with Ultherapy. I recommend Ultherapy with RF treatments, lasers, microneedling/PRP or sculptra to get increased collagen, tightening and improve skin tone. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an expert. Yes, Ultherapy results can continue to improve up to a year. Collagen production can vary from person to person. That being said, we typically do an Ulthera touch up/boost at 6 months. To combat aging, we encourage all of our patients to also use Retin-A daily, and most of our patients have Sculptra injections as well.

You can see tightening for up to a year after Ulthera and other laser treatments.  So you may still see some improvement. 

We can normally see most of your results by 6 months. However, it very well could take a year.  Ulthera is not a treatment that is going to eliminate all of the laxity in any patient.  Some people could even benefit from a second treatment in the first year.  The best way to see how you have responded is to monitor with photos. Thank you for your question. Each patient's response to treatment is different. In most cases, it will take around 5-6 months to see most of the results, and full results at 9-12 months. Since Ultherapy uses the body's natural processes, it can be hard to pinpoint the exact month you will see your full result. If you are at 6 months and see sag, I would recommend visiting a board certified facial plastic surgeon who will be able to best determine whether another treatment is necessary or possibly recommend a supplementary treatment such as fillers to achieve your desired result.I find that Ultherapy works best as part of a combination treatment in many cases.

Thanks for your question and we always recommend that these procedures be done in the offices of a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon.  The reality is that it can take upwards of a year before final results are all in, but usually by six months we know what most people’s skin will look like. The main thing here is that you say there is a little sag left. What did they tell you in your consultation?  Nothing is 100% and even with Ulthera, a little sag is not unusual. If they told you it would be 100%, then I would have been more nervous than what they should have said – and on occasion, people need more than one Ulthera treatment.
