I am looking to get rid of my acne scars I have few on my right cheek (a small patch of boxcar scars) & rolling acne scars.Though not a lot of scarring it bothers me. I've had them for years. I went to get a consultation from a woman who performs laser and insisted that the Ematrix is the best way to go, which would be over the Lux 1540 Fractional Laser. But, I keep hearing mixed reviews between the two and I of course want the best results but not with huge down time. What would you recommend?

Answer: Improving Acne Scars with lasers, fillers, subcision and microneedling/prp--takes a series of treatments' A combination approach will give the most improvement. These types of scars need a combination of lasers, microneedling/prp, subcision and fillers. Co2 is the best laser for scars, but Erbium is a great alternative. It will take a series of treatments and may need some treatments to maintain. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an acne scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Multimodality approach for acne scars with eMatirx, PRP, fractional lasers, peels and topical maintenance eMatrix is sublative and can be used as part of a mulitimodality approach to relieve scarring along with chemical peels, PRP, fractional lasers. Before that, try Melarase AM and PM creams and Spectrase wide spectrum sun block to prevent ongoing damage and inflammation to the skin. An oral supplement called Scler-X is also helpful as a PIH Relief Complex. Best, H Karamanoukian MD FACS

Answer: Its not about the device, its about the acne scar type Acne scar revision is a specialised field. For the best results, one should target the acne scar type with ideal treatments. The web reference below will take you to a resource. I embedded all the videos in one page to help. If you are in Florida, and if you are serious about acne scar revision, see Dr Steve Weiner. He is a Board Certified plastics and will approach your scarring in a similar manner as most Acne scar specialist- targeting the scar type. For example deep ice pick scars, and narrow box car scars can be treated with TCA CROSS peels, mixed scars, rolling, and atrophic scars treated with fractional devices such as Fraxel, fractional lasers, PRP and INFINI radiofrequency. Atrophic scars (depressions) can be treated with either fat grafts, or with HA dermal fillers. Tethered and anchored scars are best treated with surgery. The majority of patients will have a collection of different scar types, and hence a tailored treatment METHOD will be best. Careful examination, especially under angled lighting with scar mapping will give you an understanding of what are the best options for your scars. All the best, Dr Davin Lim. Acne scar dermatologist specialist. Brisbane, Australia.
