I’m kind of concerned about what I have done to my nose. Please help me understand. I am 22 and over a year I’ve been frequently blowing my nose and applying pressure with my fingers over the tip, sliding it to the top, and releasing. I think I made it fatter and a wider somehow, and I think it’s dropping. Have I done anything to me nose? Are the cartilages subject to change after a year of manipulation. Why/why not?
Answer: I Recommend Rhinoplasty | Facial Plastic Surgery Nose Job Expert | Do Rubbing Massages Change Shape Rotate Tip | Los Angeles BH Hello and thank you for your question. I actually answered your similar question from 3/17/24. To help other people with similar questions, I have copied my answer here as follows: Unfortunately, despite what you might find online, nose manipulation exercises and massages do NOT change the shape of the nose or tip! The only effect you might see is creation of a horizontal crease above your tip if you frequently rub your nose or push the tip up (due to the skin folding- similar to how your forehead develops wrinkles as you age). To address the size or shape of the nose, you would need surgery to adjust the underlying structural framework. Addressing the shape of your nose (especially the nasal tip) is actually one of the most common reasons people seek out and undergo a rhinoplasty. An open septorhinoplasty can best address both your aesthetic concerns and any functional issues with your nose. I would be able to adjust the size, shape, and definition of your nose (especially tip)! This truly is a surgery of millimeters- and whether you're looking for a minor adjustment or a major transformation, it requires exceptional surgical skill to achieve functional and natural-looking results! Because your nose is the DEFINING feature of your face- I would only recommend seeing a surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty procedures, and who has significant training and experience performing these surgeries. I actually trained under one of the world leading rhinoplasty experts (who performs 1,000+ nosejobs annually). I recommend for you to setup a formal consultation with me (or another plastic surgeon who is extremely comfortable with rhinoplasties) to thoroughly discuss your surgical goals, undergo a formal examination, evaluate your options, and develop a personalized plan just for you. I hope this helps! Dr. Donald Groves Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Manipulation Hey! So you do not want to manipulate your nose too much because your cartilage is influenced by change, they are bendable and flexible and can have issues. Try not to put so much pressure on your nose while doing that. Overtime your cartilage is going to loose their spring/support. It is unlikely that you made a radical change to your nose, but again if you push hard enough you can dislocate your septum and make your cartilage weaker. Overall, be gentle with your nose! Hope this helps!

Answer: Pulling down on the nasal tip can lead to tip droopiness. From your narrative, it seems that you push your nose upward, and I'm not sure if that would cause any changes. If part of your nasal manipulation involves pulling your nasal tip downward, this can lead to weakening or dislocation of the ligaments that support the tip that extend from the bridge downward. I hope this answers your question. Sincerely, Dr Joseph
