After a chemical peel is it common to be advised to not wash your face at all? (5-7 day period)

I had a chemical peel done 4 days ago and where the skin has come off is very red. I am going in to a check up tomorrow but I see on almost every advice column it says to wash your cash with cetaphil or dove. I was told to not wash my face at all. Has anyone ever heard of this?

There are many types of chemical peels and I am certainly not an expert in all types of chemical peels. That being said, all appeals in my office I will have patients wash their face with a gentle cleanser during the healing process. This is especially true if you are placing ointment such as Vaseline or Aquaphor on your face. You want to ensure that you clean off all of the Vaseline/Aquaphor before applying a new layer to prevent infection. I would talk to your provider who did a chemical peel to further clarify why there is not a need to clean it at this time.I hope this helps

Thank you for your question. It is always advised that you follow the post op care instructions provided by your board certified facial plastic surgeon. That said, and without knowing the details of the chemical peel you received, we do recommend our patients gently cleanse their face. Please post photos to aid in our recommendations.

we usually encourage washing especially the next day with gentle cleanser. I give my patients a post-Peel kit which includes a facial wash (Pca) I don't know the Peel u used though.
