Finasteride vs dutasteride comparison - Which is better for hair loss?

Hi Doctors, is dutasteride better than finasteride for hairloss? Or are they both the same in the long run? If one is on propecia, can you add dutasteride to the regimen so hair Dependant on propecia don't fall? From the Experiences you have from patients is there much of a difference between the 2 medications? Thank You

Thanks for the great question. You just need to dig out the studies from the clinical research papers to see that dutasteride 0.5 mg is superior to finasteride 1 mg. Now, whether or not the side effects are similar is open to some debate so you’ll want to review that carefully with your doctors. Yes, there is a difference between the two medications, most definitely. As far as adding dutasteride to a plan that currently involves finasteride- yes there are options. Sinclair published a nice report a few years back of the benefits of adding dutasteride on the weekends for someone using finasteride. So that is an option. Other options and protocols exist too. Be sure to have a good discussion with a really knowledgeable physician.  Dutasteride is not formally FDA approved for hair loss so many have less experience and knowledge with the drug.

There are many (medical) treatments for hair loss.  Unfortunately, none of them are successful in the long run.  Hair loss is an inherited genetic condition.  Your hair is going to do whatever it is programmed generically to do .  The only thing that may help, is if you pick new parents.

Your best choice is to treat your condition with a procedure known as Neograft,  which is a very safe, simple, non invasive, very successful procedure which will give you permanent hair growth.
