When will I know my final bra size after my breast augmentation?

Question

I had my BA a week and a half ago and everything is going really well. I started with a 36B and had 420 cc, extra high profile silicone implants put in. I’m expecting to be a D or DD once they’re settled. They’re starting to drop and fluff, but I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a bra that isn’t going to fit in a month. When will I know what my final bra size is?

My recommendation is to buy a few sports or supportive bras at four to six weeks. There may still be some slight shifting and changing for about six months. At that point you might safely go on a lingerie shopping spree with a professional bra fitter.

Hello!  Thank you for your question!  It typically takes 2-3 months for your final result to be seen in primary breast augmentation. At 3 months, all of the swelling should have resolved and your implants settled into their intended position that was created. In meantime, continue with the instructions, exercises, and garments discussed with your surgeon. Hope that this helps!  Best wishes!

Dear _chlowil,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a breast augmentation surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues around the implants are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides and the implants drop to their final position, you will be able to see the final result of your breast augmentation surgery.Daniel Barrett, MD

at this time so you have something to go out with but ask your surgeon as to whether there are certain styles recommended over others.  I personally allow my patients to wear underwire bras in non-functional ways until they love their look, then they must cinch up the straps and hold them up tp preserve that look.  As for when changes are no longer expected, my patients are allowed to make their purchases after their post-op photos are taken.
