I am interested in having lip reduction surgery , im not interested in having 'ethnic lip reduction' i want western sized lips, i feel that my bottom lip is red and bulbous and kinda sticks out. i have very chapped dry lips (i need to use lip balm every day) im looking for a big change. will insurance help pay for some of the costs? sometimes i feel like my lower lip trips up my speech but im not sure.

Lip reduction is less popular than it used to be since large lips are more in fashion. Lips are reduced through a surgical procedure. The incisions are hidden inside the mouth behind the area where the lips meet called the wet line. Since lips are so sensitive, they may remain swollen for a number of weeks.

Your lower lip can be made much smaller but still should be slightly larger than the upper lip. See a very experienced surgeon for this. The recovery from this is approximately one week but the lip will remain swollen for several weeks afterward.

Your lower lip is disproportionately larger than your upper lip as would be compared to the norm for any ethnic or racial group. The answer foBr you would be a reduction of the lower lip so it is no more than 50% larger than your upper lip.
