The most common cause of "gritty" feeling in the eyes after surgery is secondary to dryness. There are a few causes of dry eyes that should be evaluated by an opthalmologist or oculoplastic surgeon. I would see one of these doctors in a timely manner.For the time being, I would place artificial tears in your eyes during the day and an eye ointment in your eyes before you go to sleep. I would try something like lacrilube. Please read the medications before using them to make sure they are safe to use on your eyes. There are many possible reasons that may contribute to your problem. Among them; inability to fully close your eyes (lagophthalmos or ectropion), allergy, pre-existing dryness in your eyes prior surgery, photo-sensitivity and possible trauma to your tear production and drainage mechanism. You are 8 months out, probably things should have settled by now. I would work closely with my surgeon. You are still in the global one year period. Inquire about a referral to an ophthalmologist for expert evaluation.
