Question

Explant of 12 yo Mentor 350 mpp next month. Requested lift and nipple projection reduction. Placement, size and animation deformity bothered me since day one as I am quite active. Does the severity of the animation deformity indicate a successful/unsuccessful “repair”/outcome? Can the nipple asymmetry & inframammary crease be evened out if a lift isn’t performed? How can post surgery adhesions/window shading be avoided? 48yo 5’9” 150lbs. Before implants 34 A/B. Currently 34/36. Thank you!!

Hello @suzlem, thank you for your question. It really depends on the technique used by the specialist who is going to performed the explant. I would suggest a breast reconstruction with reposition of the tissues and in this way achieve an aesthetic result that is adequate with minimal scarring like. Animation deformity with dual plane breast implants requires muscle re-attachment for a successful outcome. There are options such as the split muscle or subfascial that can be used for correction of animation with re-attachment of the muscle without implant removal. I just published a piece on this.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, it is possible to remove implants and improve animation deformity and asymmetry in the same procedure. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.

Even when removed, you may still have some animation deformity when your flex your muscles, but it usually is much less noticeable.  An examination is needed to determine if a lift can safely be done at the same time as the removal, or if it needs to be done later.  Uneven creases can be addressed without a lift.
