This is great question but I am surprised that you were not told about the timing of Botox effect. Generally speaking, the effect can start as soon as few days and have full effect in about 2 weeks.Best regards and I hope this helps, Dr. Sapijaszko (Fellow, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery)
Botox starts working anywhere from 3-5 days after injections for most people and full effects are visible after around 7-10 days. I recommend waiting the full 10 days after injections, and then contacting your physician injector with any questions or concerns you might have. All the best,
Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. Let me assure you it is very common not to see the positive effects of Botox right away. Some patients take up to a week or even two to discover the treatment achieved the desired result. Once your refreshed appearance becomes apparent, you should be able to enjoy the improvement for three to four months.
Congratulations on your first BOTOX® appointment! Know that it can take 10 to 14 days to start seeing your final results. So don’t be alarmed if you’re not seeing any changes just yet—this is completely normal. This is why some providers ask that you schedule a follow-up appointment around two weeks after your initial appointment, just to make sure you’re happy with your results and that everything has settled into place as it should. Hope this helps!
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin lock the release of a chemical called acetylcholine, which triggers the muscle contractions that create wrinkles. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin essentially paralyze the muscles and stops them from contracting. Results from these treatments are visible within 3-7 days with results that can last anywhere from 3-4 months.
Dear Ashrenee9287Thank you for your question. It is early days post Botox treatment and this is completely normal. Therapeutic results are seen 2 weeks after your treatment. Best wishes. Dr. Chetty
Thank you for your question Ashrenee9287. I understand your concern. Botox is a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with facial expression. When injected into the skin Botox will relax the muscles and smoothen out the overlying wrinkles. The most common areas of treatment are in the upper face. These include the horizontal lines seen on the upper forehead when one raises the brows, the vertical lines seen between the brows when one frowns (frown lines), and the crow's feet seen around the eyes when one smiles. It is difficult to make an assessment in the absence of consistent photographs before and after in the same lighting and angles for comparison. However, I hope the information provided here is useful. The appearance of frown lines is variable from person to person. Usually they are in a vertical orientation but sometimes they can be oblique and sometimes a horizontal line is seen across the upper portion of the nasal bridge. The most common variation is to have two parallel lines, hence the common term "11's" to describe them. But some people have one, three, or more lines. Some people also will see a bulge in the area when contracting the muscle. This bulge is smoothened out after a Botox treatment. The pivotal studies used 20 units of Botox in the glabella area between the brow to address the frown lines, 24 units of Botox (12 units per side) to address the crow’s feet, and 20 units of Botox in the forehead area above the brows to address the horizontal lines seen when one raises the brows. These studies demonstrated that the peak results are seen 14 days after the treatment and most people enjoy their results for 3-4 months. At that point, a maintenance treatment is recommended. While some people start to see results as early as the next day, it can take two weeks for full results so patience is important. We have our patients return two weeks after their treatment to assess their results via photographs. At that time additional units may be added if necessary. If I had a patient with the concern described here I would recommend being patient and waiting a full two weeks before assessing any results. With any injection, there are risks such as pain, bleeding, bruising, redness, swelling, tenderness, and infection. We take special precautions to minimize these risks such as using a painless technique. We also treat bruises with a laser as early as the next day. Bruises usually resolve within two weeks if untreated. After a laser treatment bruises usually resolve in 1-3 days, but may still take two weeks for full resolution. In addition to these risks, with Botox there is also a risk that the product spreads or diffuses to nearby structures. Spread to nearby muscles can lead to side effects such as the temporary appearance of droopy eyelids or a temporary asymmetric smile. After a Botox treatment, I recommend that my patients avoid heat exposure, alcohol consumption, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours and not lie down flat for four hours. This is because all of these activities may possibly lead to the movement of the product and consequent side effects such as droopy eyelids. Although there have been no definitive studies shown that these actually occur and some physicians do not provide such aftercare instructions, in the absence of data I err on the side of caution and recommend that my patients avoid such activities. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!
Congratulations on seeking your first experience with Botox! For many patients, this is not an easy decision, and I hope your experience is excellent. 2 days after your Botox injections, I would not expect to see anything yet! The Botox itself takes some time to be taken up by the cells. I tell patients that they will not see anything for about 3-5 days. At 1 week after injections, take a look in the mirror for what is likely the full effect. At 1 week, if there is anything that you don't quite love, I tell my patients to call me, come in, and we can talk about what they are seeing. Sometimes underlying facial asymmetries (which are normal) can become more apparent at that point, and so one or two additional units may be necessary to get you the best result possible.I wish you the best success for your treatment. Sincerely, Eric T. Carniol, MD
HiNo worries It is too earlyMost people will see results starting 3-5 days and majority by 7 days. Things may continue to have effect for even 10 days. That is why most providers will not do any extra treatments to correct seeming asymmetries for at least 10-14 days after the initial treatment Good luck
Botox starts to kick in at about three to five days in the majority of people, but at the same time in others it may take up to two weeks for Botox to start working. Then there is a small percentage of people in whom Botox does not work at all. You have nothing to worry about, be patient. Good luck from New York City
