Numbness to chin area following Botox and Restylane filler

Question

This has occured weeks following treatment, no other signs of any vascular occlusion other than the numb feeling i have in my chin, this has come on following all bruising subsiding, is this likely the botox maybe? It feels cold and numb in my chin however when i touch it it is warm.

Numbness is a very common symptom after getting Botox. When injected into the muscle, Botox prevents the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which causes the muscles to contract. Therefore, it causes temporary muscular relaxation, which might lead to numbness in the treated area which will eventually disappear.

Findings may relate to dermal filler located near nerve branches. We've had patients present with numbness after filler placement in the chin/jawline. Using ultrasound, we noted dermal filler near the mental foramen which contains important nerves and blood vessels . The blood vessels were patent- so no vascular occlusion fortunately. Using ultrasound-guidance, we do targeted filler dissolve. The patients have noted improvement in their symptoms of numbness after the filler near the foramen was dissolved. Wish you all the best! I encourage you to return to your provider for a follow up.  An occlusion is unlikely as they present quickly after treatment, but it's best that you be evaluated just in case.  Be sure to let your injector know the details of the symptoms including when you noticed them, what makes them worse or better, etc.
