Hello there! I am wondering if you can help me. I have had what appears to be a platysmal neck band (I have had it since I can recall, which is 21, so I have never deemed it age related.) I have had no idea what has caused it, I'm unsure if it's loose skin, etc. I would be thankful for advice and who the best person would be to see for it as I'm unsure what has caused it. Many thanks.
Answer: Loose skin can be tighten by doing Morpheus8. Botox can help reduce appearance of platysmas lines. Morpheus 8 is a non-invasive skin and soft tissue tightening treatment that is consistently amazing in our patients. We use the Morpheus to exact fractional induced RF into the skin or tissue in order to tighten collagen and stimulate contraction of the tissue. For acne scars, it is quite useful to build collagen in patients who have atrophic scars but is not very productive for ice-pick scars which require TCA Cross. For tissue tightening, Morpheus is ideal for the face and neck and we often combine it with CO2 laser or Ultherapy to further enhance results. Chemical peels and skin resurfacing should be done at least 5 to 7 days after, but can be performed earlier, depending on treatment severity. Avoid exfoliating skin treatments before Morpheus and expect a period of 2-4 weeks for skin contraction to set in. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: Neck Lines / Tech Neck / Neck Wrinkles -- Soft Fillers (Belotero) in combination w/ Lasers and Microneedling/PRP "Injecting soft fillers like Belotero in this area can reduce lines, wrinkles and folds as well as improve skin texture with long-term collagen production. Fillers are being used more frequently to contour and lift rather than solely line fill. Of course, fillers are best used in combination with lasers and microneedling with PRP to get the optimal outcome. I suggest getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist to create an individualized treatment plan that works for you. Best, Dr. Emer"

Answer: Neck platysmal bands Hello! It is a platysmal band, which is a muscle in the neck that can become more visible and prominent as we age, due to certain medical conditions or genetics. In some cases, platysmal bands can be present from a young age, as you've mentioned. If you're unsure about the cause of your platysmal band, it would be best to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon or a facial plastic surgeon. They can examine your neck and determine if the band is due to muscle laxity or excess skin, and then recommend appropriate treatment options. Treatment options may include Botox injections to relax the muscle, surgery to tighten the muscle, or a combination of both. Your surgeon will be able to discuss these options with you and help you determine the best approach for your individual needs. It's important to choose a surgeon with experience in neck rejuvenation procedures to ensure that you receive safe and effective treatment.

Answer: Platysmal bands can appear in younger individuals The visible platysmal band you're referring to is a common concern and, as you've mentioned, not necessarily age-related. Platysmal bands can appear in younger individuals due to genetic predisposition or specific muscle anatomy. A non-surgical approach could work well for your situation. Botox or similar neuromodulators are an effective first-line treatment for softening the appearance of platysmal bands. By relaxing the muscle, the bands become less prominent, and results typically last three to four months. This treatment is quick, minimally invasive, and performed in-office with no downtime. For longer-lasting results and additional tightening, you may want to explore low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy (LI-ESWT) or PRP therapy combined with microneedling. These treatments stimulate collagen production, improve skin elasticity, and enhance overall skin tone, addressing mild laxity around the neck. If the concern persists or you're looking for more dramatic results, a thread lift could be an option. This minimally invasive procedure involves inserting absorbable threads under the skin to physically lift and support sagging areas, while stimulating collagen for longer-term improvements. Ultimately, a tailored approach is best. Consulting with an experienced practitioner, ideally someone skilled in both non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments, will help determine the right solution for your unique anatomy and goals. I hope this information helps, and I’d encourage you to schedule a consultation to explore these options further!
