Hi, I had an injury almost 5 weeks ago now, my dog scratched me under me eye. Although it healed really well I have noticed it is raised, it seems to fluctuate in size though. I’m wondering what type of treatment would be best to flatten and smooth the scar given how delicate the eye area is? Is it best to do something about it now or wait until it’s healed a bit more? I know it’s small, but it’s bothering me a lot. Thanks, Laura
Answer: Watchful waiting is the answer here :) Hello Laura. When it comes to wound healing, it may take up to a year before a scar is fully healed. As you mentioned this area is very delicate, and the skin is thin. I would allow it to fully heal before considering any interventions. You may be happy with the way it looks even without any procedure. However, if it's still raised or painful, you can consider steroid injections or laser for this area.

Answer: Recommend using Plato's scar serum twice daily Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started. Answer: Scar Revision Recommendation Hello, Thank you for your question. This is Dr. James Fernau from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I would recommend laser scar resurfacing, preferably with a Sciton profractional laser machine. The laser resurfacing will dramatically reduce the raise and the appearance of the scar. I recommend a scar revision consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area. Thank you and best wishes. Sincerely, James Fernau, MD FACS

Answer: Scar Thank you for your question and photographs. It's difficult to evaluate your skin through this type of forum, but from what I can see, the bump could be scarring or granulation tissue or possible residual inflammation from the injury that occurred 5 weeks ago. I would monitor and let the area heal for another 4 weeks, and if the bump is still present, I highly recommend you consult with a board certified dermatologist to have your skin evaluated and to discuss appropriate treatment options. Take care and good luck.
