I need to significantly reduce my upper incisor display at rest and while talking. Is there a botox solution to do this by lengthening the upper lip?
Answer: Options for you I do not think that Botox will significantly relax your upper lip at rest. Botox will be more helpful when the position of the upper lip is too high with smiling or movement. Have you seen an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for an evaluation? It appears that your upper jaw (maxilla) is too long which is leading to excessive show of your upper teeth at rest and while talking. There are surgical solutions for this known as jaw surgery or orthognathic surgery. I suggest you meet with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to explore your options if you are open to surgery. Best of luck to you!

Answer: Shortened upper lip Although Botox can be used for what we call a “gummy smile“ I don’t think it would do a great deal for your particular situation. In your case, I would have somebody evaluate your upper lip frenulum to see if it is short and tethering your upper lip. If this is the case then a simple frenulectomy can be performed to drop the upper lip height.

Answer: Botox and upper lip shortening Based on your photograph, Botox will not help you and making the lip look shorter. You have what is called a long maxilla, and they should be addressed with the maxillary reduction surgery. Do you need to find either a plastic surgeon who specializes in such techniques or a maxillofacial surgeon. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City Plastic surgeon.

Answer: Botox for gummy smiles Thanks for your question. Although Botox can be used to help correct a gummy smile, that is not the only solution. Botox or similar agents act by relaxing the upper lip muscles, lengthening them so that there is less "incisor show". However, it cannot correct a deficiency in the upper lip. From your photographs, it seems likely that upper lip augmentation will help your situation. First, I recommend temporary filler to see if it helps you reach your goals and gives you a nice smile. If you like the result, you can decide to use a more permanent filler. Ultimately, a thorough evaluation by a board certified Plastic Surgeon will help determine the best personalized plan to reach your goals. I hope this helps.
