I am 4 weeks post Tummy Tuck and liposuction of the thighs and my energy level is so low that I have to lie down after doing simple chores such as cooking, grocery shopping or even taking a shower. I was low in Ferritin levels prior to the operation and I am now taking 3 tablets of 'Proferrin' daily and eating well, but I see no improvement in my general well-being and stamina. Is this normal?
Answer: Low stamina following tummy tuck
Don't worry if you have low energy levels. Your body is still healing. It is not at all unusual to have low stamina following a tummy tuck. This can persist up to 3 months in some individuals. Low energy is quite common. You can do something as little as going out for an errand or going up and down the stairs a few times. You can feel wiped out after doing little activity. This is completely normal. Your energy will come back!

Answer: Fatigue and Low Energy Levels after Tummy Tuck Surgery?
Thank you for the question.
Although I cannot give you specific advice about your situation, it is very common for patients to have significant fatigue and loss of stamina 4 weeks after tummy tuck surgery. Remember that you have undergone a major operation and now need a period of “rehab” before you should expect yourself to reach your preoperative levels of energy…
I suggest my patients gradually increase their stamina by gradually increasing their “exercise tolerance” while taking frequent naps throughout the day. I also ask patients to make sure they are paying attention to nutrition ( extra protein supplements if necessary) and hydration during the recovery period.
Given your specific concerns, your plastic surgeon will be in the best position to advise you after direct examination. If necessary, blood work can be done to address your specific concerns as well.
Best wishes.

Answer: Low Energy Level 4 weeks after Tummy Tuck
It is unusual to see low energy levels this far out after a tummy tuck. I would consult with your primary care doctor and surgeon to ensure that you are not anemic or having any fluid retention issues.
I believe nutrition is going to be key to your recovery, so it may be worth your while to seek the attention of a dietician after appropriate workup by your physicians.

Answer: Low Energy
It is normal to have low energy levels after having a surgical procedure. General Anesthetics can cause low energy levels for upto a year after surgery. I would recommend a multi-vitamin and continue trying to increase your hemoglobin level back to normal.

Answer: Fatigue following Tummy Tuck Surgery
It is not unusual to experience increased fatigue following any significant surgery including a tummy tuck. The symptoms of fatigue can continue for up to six weeks following the procedure, as much of your body's energy stores are being dedicated to healing. However, if you had a significant amount of bleeding during your procedure or you had a history of low ferritin levels, this could also be contributing to your loss of energy. Check with your physician and ask them to check your blood count and ferritin levels. Best wishes.
