Unable to chew after tooth bonding. Is this normal?

I had tooth bonding done to front teeth (top 2 and bottom 2) to fix chips. After bonding, the bottom too are touching the back of the front tooth when I bite. None of my other teeth are touching each other anymore and I am unable to chew. The dentist mentioned that within few weeks the jaw will adjust and everything will be normal. I am a bit scared that my bite will be permanently altered and I won't be able to chew.
