Is it normal to experience headaches after Septoplasty?

Question

It is 1 week since I had a septoplasty. I have severe headaches on the right side. My jaw n cheeks are very sore. Pain medication only last for a while intil the pain is back.

It is very
common to have headaches after surgery. It can be part of normal recovery or it can be a symptom of something else. For instance, very rarely a cerebrospinal
fluid leak occurs after nasal surgery. I

Severe headaches are not a common complication of nasal surgery, but can certainly occur on occasion. Especially if a lot of bony work was done. I would make sure your rhinoplasty surgeon evaluates you to make sure the headaches are not due to a complication of rhinoplasty, just to be sure. Good luck.

Thank you for the question.  I have not personally had any patients complain of headaches after septoplasty.  I have in fact had a number of patients report that the number of migraines reduced after a septoplasty.  Supporting some of the current views of migraine surgery being nerve related.  I would discuss this with your plastic surgeon to see if there is an explanation that he or she can find.  Perhaps swelling or fluid collection is placing some pressure on the surrounding tissues.All the best,Dr. Remus Repta
