What are the side effects of lumineers? (photo)

Lumineer is a trade name for a type of no or minimal preparation veneer.They are very see through and translucent. I WOULD NOT recommend this for you. Traditional veneers can change the yellow shade you dislike. Lumineers cannot.  Also, your 2 front teeth are not appropriate for no prep veneers. They will appear big, bulky like horse teeth.Please do not be afraid of preparations on your teeth for traditional veneers. This is where the strength, longevity and realistic unbulky smile makeovers come from.....accurate conservative preparation.I hope you are just using the term loosely. In my 33 years of practicing cosmetic dentistry, I have never found a case that was appropriate for Lumineers....and neither is yours.

Hi:Lumineers are a type of porcelain veneers that are thin and not much tooth structure is removed.  There is not much of a side effect to Lumineers if the teeth are not touched.  However, if enamel is removed then you have to keep your teeth covered forever.In your case my main concern is your bite.  You seem to have an underbite.  Lumineers might not be the right solution since there could be quite a lot of pressure on the Lumineers and cracking or fracturing could take place.  It is best to consult an expert cosmetic dentist with expertise in bite and all different restorations to see what is the best option for you.Best of luck!

You would be a great candidate for porcelain veneers. With veneers you can change the color shape and size of the teeth. Lumineers are just a brand or type of veneers. The premise behind Lumineers is that no tooth structure needs to be removed. However, this is rarely if ever the case. Very very few case are candidates for total no preparation cases. There are better porcelain materials now that look more natural than Lumineers. My experience with redoing many old Lumineers cases that have come into the office is that they appear bulky and sometimes have issues at the gumline. Explore all your options when it comes to porcelain veneers. Best of luck to you!
