Lumineers to lengthen teeth for a bigger smile?

Question

My top teeth barely show when I smile. I was recommended a jaw surgery to bring down the maxillary bone but I feel its too drastic a step since I'm fairly young (19 yrs old). Veneers would require grinding of teeth which Im not not comfortable with. Would Lumineers do the job of lengthening teeth without having to grind my existing teeth?

While Lumineers are sometimes a great option for many patients, they are typically used to just conceal minor imperfections or discolorations in teeth.  However, when there are greater things that need to be done, like tooth lengthening or space closing, porcelain veneers and crowns are often times much better.  I would recommend finding a cosmetic dentist with excellent before and after photos of their actual patients to determine whether that dentist is the right fit for you. Lumineers can be used to lengthen teeth.  You should seek out a dentist that understands orthodontics as well as the different types of veneers so that you can get the best advice for what will work in your mouth.
