Am i able to get a breast reduction when I have severe chest acne?

Question

so i finally decided to get a reduction, but 4months ago i started developing chest acne and it got severe and i am now starting treatment. the worst spot is my underboobs, but really my whole breasts are clogged and zitty. am i still able to get a reduction, or do my boobs have to be clear?

It would probably be best to at least get the active lesions under control before having your reduction. The chances of having an infection with the surgery are still very low. But it is better to be safe than sorry. The acne does not have to be completely clear, but the severe and actively purulent lesions should be controlled.

Having active infection in the skin around your breast will increase your risk of infection, which if it occurs increases your chance of bad scars - you should try to settle the infection down as much as possible with medical grade skin care, microdermabrasion and possibly peels or antibiotics. This is a difficult decision and you need to consider the increased risks of infection or wound breakdown with a breast reduction versus the functional and aesthetic concerns you have with large breasts. If you are on retinoid treatment then this would need to be stopped before any surgery. The timing depends on your dermatologist and the treatment doses. In situations such as this I would recommend patients having no active skin problems prior to surgery and that the dermatologist is happy before proceeding.
