What is the difference between Microneedling and Microneedling with PRP?

Great question, Christy. In our practice we refer to PRP as "liquid gold" because it provides healing and rejuvenation and is a natural way to improve the appearance of your skin. Platelet-rich plasma is a high concentrate of protein derived from the blood; blood is drawn from the patient and placed in a tube that, once spun in a centrifuge, separates natural growth factors and stem cells from red blood cells. In addition to helping you maintain a fresh, youthful appearance, PRP can address localized conditions such as acne, wrinkles, cellulite, scars, and sun damage, and it's great when used in conjunction with lasers, radiofrequency devices, and (as you mentioned) microneedling treatments.The Vampire Facial uses PRP and stem cells to improve complexion, texture, and fine lines and wrinkles. Our office has many different treatments for scars depending on the depth of atrophy or hypertrophy. Scars require a combination approach using our HI DEF protocol which uses a combination of lasers, topical scar modulation, and RF treatments to pixelate scars, improve contour, reduce hyperpigmentation, and improve the visibility of the scars so that they are no longer visible in ambient light. Everyone has a unique pattern of scarring and we employ our HIDEF technique to improve texture, color, contour, and topography. We often use a combination of treatments that begin with a careful examination to examine the micro texturing of the acne scars. Atrophic scars and indented scars can benefit from injectable fillers such as Radiesse, Sculptra, and Restylane with or without subcision to remove tethered scars and atrophic depression. Subcision and TCA cross are also used for deep ice pick scars and narrow valley scars in order to improve the micro texture. Thank you for the question. If you add PRP or PRF to your microneedling sessions, you will see result in term of increase collagen and in the quality of your skin faster. That means you might need overall less microneedling sessions to achieve a satisfying result.  Good luck.

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. The needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Through this process there is improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks. Typically hyaluronic acid is used to work into the skin. PRP, platelet rich plasma, can be used instead however. If you choose this route, your blood is drawn, spun down, and  the plasma portion is worked into your skin. Usually the PRP decreasing healing time and the growth factors promote an even better result! 

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves creating microinjuries to the skin to stimulate collagen production which in turn helps treat uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, acne scars, and fine lines. Microneedling is a form of collagen induction therapy where multiple microneedles oscillate at high speed to create micro trauma in the dermal and epidermal layers of the skin. This stimulates collagen synthesis and skin renewal. 
The addition of PRP provides the traumatised skin with platelet derived healing and growth factors. Depending on the platelet concentrating apparatus, these factors can be up to ten times the amount seen in unconcentrated blood. In short, it significantly aids in the healing and renewal process post skin needling.
