Is the Rejuvapen used for microneedling or am I being ripped off?

Question

I have had three sessions of microneedling done for my acne scars and I can see very little difference. I go to a a medical spa because it's very difficult to find anyone who performs The procedure. She uses the Rejuvapen at 1.4mm. Is this device the best to use for microneedling or should I find someone who uses the Eclipse? I've heard about that device recently.

Depending on the severity of your acne scars you may require more like 4-6 treatments or more. I would recommend you combine micro-needling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to get greater improvement. At times a chemical peel and/or laser treatment may be beneficial between treatments as needed. You should find a cosmetic/plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist who can evaluate your skin and give you options that will give you the best results. There are various micro-pens on the market that are really good. We use the SkinPen (it's just like the Eclipse) in which we are very happy with.

Thank  you for your question about micronpen treatments.  Microneedling is a great method to treat a myriad of things with little downtime.  It generally takes several treatments to see improvements in fine lines or acne scarring.  The addition of growth factors will often amplify the result.  In addition, adding PRP (platelet rich plasma) can improve the results even more.  This is the procedure of drawing your own blood, spinning it down to extract the PRP, and needling it into the skin.  As for the device used....Rejuvapen vs. Eclipse pen....is probably not going to impact your results.  Depth of needling and the amount of needles on the head of the pen are factors that can make an impact, in addition to the growth factor/PRP.  
To be sure, see two or more experienced, licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

At our practice, we use Rejuvapen and have excellent results in minimizing the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, large pores and sun damage.  Regarding scars, we typically recommend 5-6 treatments at monthly intervals.  Occasionally, we suggest a chemical peel or two in between treatments such as the VI Peel to loosen up the dead skin kicked up by the microneedling and create a smoother palette to work with.  Often mixing and matching technologies is very helpful as well and we encourage our patients to try laser facials such as Pico Way Resolve or CO2 Fractional "CO2RE" by Syneron-Candela.One of my favorite add-ons for microneedling is PRP (our own growth factors), Botox and Juvederm.  At home regimens are extremely important in treating acne scars such as Sente' BioCorenuem nightly to smooth the surface of the skin, Dermal Repair Cream by Sente' after microneedling to soothe and hydrate as well as Skin Medica's TNS Recovery Complex which is made from human growth factors.  Hope this helps.  Good luck.

I usually recommend three to five sessions for Rejuvapen. As far as future recommendations go i think you should alternatewith microneedling  treatments with micro laser peels or chemical peels for best results. I also suggest getting a consult at a physicians office for this treatment to decide the best pathway. Thank you

For acne scars, I recommend a combination approach that does include microneedling. I always add prp and lasers to microneedling in order to get more robust results. With acne scars, I combine these treatments with subcision and fillers to get the most improvement. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

We are very happy with the Rejuvapen and as long as you are going to a dermatologist with good results from other patients, you should start to see improvement at some point in the future.  PRP can also enhance your results, and of course there are products that also can help improve scars, skin texture and pigment.  You might want to seek the opinion of an experienced board certified dermatologist to make sure you are spending your money wisely and getting the results you want.  Best of luck!

I have worked with a number of Micorneedling devices.  It clearly depends on the depth of your acne scars, what your at home regimen is and if they used PRP or a chemical peel with the treatment.  I currently use the Rejuvapen and have had great results.  It does day a good 30 days for the skin cell turnover and a Vitamin A & C topically will give you lasting result.

In our office, we use the Rejuvapen for microneedling.  1.4 is a common depth on the cheek area, but every face is unique.  It created dermal damage which then the body created new skin!  We also offer PRP for a better effect.  You may notice an enhanced effect with PRP, so I would suggest doing some research on this and finding a provider in your area who offers Rejuvapen plus PRP. The Rejuvapen is used for microneedling.  You may notice a better effect with PRP thus you may want to find a provider that is able to couple microneedle with PRP.  Many plastic surgery offices use this as well as cosmetic gynecologist.

Rejuvapen is a terrific microneedling device which offers sufficiently deep micro-injury pathways that stimulates new collagen thus remodeling depressed scars.  The prognosis often relates to enough treatment sessions.  Pared with PRP this can be very helpful with only 1-2 days of social down time. Retinol can compliment these treatments since it too has a positive affect on collagen production helpful in scar treatments.
