Hair transplant - slits made before grafting?

Question

I recently underwent a hair transplant consultation and the Dr informed me he would make the slits in my scalp on the day of procedure and then next 1-2 days as the donor hair is harvested they will place them in the pre made slits. Are there any specific concerns or complications associated with this approach that I should be aware of? I really appreciate it.

Thank you for your query. This is an unusual approach as we usually put the harvested grafts directly into the freshly made slits. There appears to be nothing wrong with the approach however, and may just be  your surgeon’s preference. Please discuss with your surgeon his/her rationale for this unusual approach and get a second opinion with a board certified plastic surgeon if not fully convinced.. All the best!

Hello, and thank you for your question. I love to hear when something doesn't sound quite right you ask the question!!! To be honest, I have never done or heard of doing the slits before harvesting and I don't recommend it. If your doctor insists on doing it this way, I would seek another doctor's opinion. I've never heard of making pre-made incisions (slits) 1-2 days prior to donor harvesting. I would recommend you to make sure if there's any misunderstanding between you and the doctor you had the consultation with.
If pre-made slits are made in the same day with the donor harvesting, there's no problem.
