Can implants cause neck, shoulder and upper back pain?

If you have a small frame with large breasts, whether naturally large or due to breast implants, it is possible that this is the cause of your neck, shoulder and upper back pain. Depending on the severity of the pain, you may wish to consider downsizing your breast implants to reduce the weight pulling on your upper body. Hi ml,  Yes, large breast implants can be one factor that can cause neck and shoulder pain. There can be other causes as well. If you have large implants, they can definitely cause discomfort. Best to see a board certified plastic surgeon to see if you would benefit from changing to smaller implants. Good luck!

Yes, having a 32D breast is going to potentially create back/neck/shoulder pain- whether or not they are natural breasts or breasts that have been implanted to create that size.I would recommend having the #breastimplants removed and give it about 6 months time to see if the upper #backpain resolves and how much natural excess skin retraction you have . You can then make a decision about getting a breast lift and/ or smaller implants. 

Many women with large breasts compared to the reset of their body proportions may experience back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and headaches.  These combined symptoms are commonly referred to symptomatic macromastia.  Women can experience these symptoms from breasts that are naturally larger than their body proportions as well as large breast implants which may be out of proportion to their body size.  Once the breasts are reduced in size or the large implants are removed, the vast majority of women obtain a great deal of improvement with regards to their pain symptoms.  I would suggest that you consult with a board certified plastic surgeons to see if the large implants are causing your pain and what options are available to you.  Good luck!

If you have large implants, they may cause discomfort in your neck and shoulder and upper back. If you are a small frame, petite women, a D cup may be large and heavy, especially if the implant is 400 cc's or larger. You might want to consider going down to a C cup in size.  Over the years, I have had to decrease the size of implants in some women who originally chose large implants.
