Cranial Cartilage used in Rhinoplasty Reconstructions?

I've just witnessed a lovely rhinoplasty revision which entailed dorsal augmentation using rib grafts and cranial cartilage. My question is whether cranial cartilage is used to a particular graft to repair cartilage damage or as a buffer pad to mask graft exposure? Thanks in advance. Please share your surgical insight.

Hi there, I am not entirely sure what graft you are referring to when describing cranial cartilage. I wonder if you saw the surgeon use temporalis fascia which is connective tissue that comes from the covering of a muscle from the side of the head (above the ear). If it was fascia, I think it was probably used to cover the rib cartilage and prevent irregularities from showing. Rarely, bone from the skull can be used for nasal reconstruction. That would be called calvarium bone graft. These technique is rarely utilized now a days and mostly helped with severe cases where bone might be missing.Hope this helps! Good luck
