Dental assistant put in the wrong tray! What can I do?

Question

I got fitted for my first set of trays on 2/25. It is 3/1 now (Saturday night) and I noticed that i am wearing the #4 set. When the assistant took it out she must have accidentally opened #4 instead of #1. Do I go back to #1 or stay on #4 and continue?

I would go back to #1 and do a full two weeks in #1, before switching to #2.  It's unfortunate, but mistakes do happen.  It seems that if you were starting with a #4, then it would have been difficult to place the aligner.  This sounds a bit odd to me, be I guess it is possible.  Usually the doctor checks the aligner before placement and the way the aligners are arranged in the Invisalign box makes it less probable for this type of thing to happen other than on very rare occasions. It may be a good idea to give your current dentist a call to let him/her know about the apparent oversight.Sarah Thompson, DMD   O'Fallon, IL

I would recommend you go back to #1.  Even though #4 fits now, it will get harder to continue to later aligners and your teeth will not track the way they are suppose to.Good luck!
