Will this dent from a Kenalog injection go away? I can do fillers but am looking for something that will last. (Photos)

Question

I had a big cyst on my chin and went to get it injected. The nurse that did the treatment mixed the medication with water but I noticed in the syringe the white medication and water did not fully mix. When injecting my chin only the medication went in and I was left with a big dent on my chin. Is this permanent? It there anything I can do to permanently fix it?

Kenalog does have the potential to cause skin atrophy if too much is placed in one area. This can sometimes improve on its own overtime; however, often will not resolve completely. Filler may be placed in the area to temporarily improve the appearance and may need to be repeated again in 1 year. More permanent options to fill the indentation would include fat grafting to the area. I would express your concerns to your surgeon and see what options they recommend to give you the most permanent benefit.

The dimple results from fatty atrophy from the steroid in the injection.  It will typically go away in 6 months to a year.  Fillers are a good choice while you are waiting.  If persistent in a year, then a fat injection or nano-fat would be an options.  Seek out a consultation with a board-certified surgeon.  Best wishes.
