are there areas that needs to be avoided when doing this treatment? For instance, around the mouth and thyroid area! Also, should i be comfortable with a nurse practitioner with only 4 months experience doing this procedure on me?

Yes, there are areas that should be avoided during Ultherapy, but the depth of the transducer can also be an influencing factor.  Typically, with the 4.5mm and 3.0mm transducers, there are areas of the mouth that are avoided as well as over the thyroid/tracheal area.  I would discuss your concerns with the nurse practitioner who would be treating you, as he or she should be familiar with what areas should not be treated.

There are areas that should be avoided around the mouth and jaw as they can cause tingling and pain during the procedure and must be avoided and above the eyebrows cause pain in the face and scalp if the provider does not have experience with these procedures. If you develop these symptoms during the procedure, tell the physician to stop going further and re-evaluate the energy setting and placement of the transducers. Of course, other areas of concern are excessive bruising that can occur around the corners of the mouth. Read the Ultherapy book provided on the link below:

Dear Princessway,

Yes, there are
certain areas to be avoided in the face. 
For instance, I would avoid the area below your thyroid cartilage or Adam’s apple and also the outer corners of the mouth.  These areas have nerves that are very
superficial or have vital organs that are very superficial to skin and certainly
don’t want to do anything that could harm them. It would be best to have the treatment performed by a provider with some experience since there is a learning curve with this device.
