Why do I have deep creases 2 weeks after chin and neck liposuction? (Photos)

Please help me understand what these deep horizontal creases are. They formed 1 week after surgery and these pics are from 2 weeks post op. They are not from compression as my doc only had me cover my neck for 3 days. My neck is very stiff and still painful in areas. Are these permanent?

The fullness and discomfort beneath your chin is normal after liposuction. Your final results will take several or months because the skin contracts slowly over time. Sometimes it is necessary to perform a touch-up with Kybella or a skin tightening procedure like Thermi or Facetite. There is a second layer of fat beneath the muscle that is not removed with liposuction or Kybella. In some cases, this second layer of fat needs to be removed to achieve a more well defined jawline.

You can still have swelling, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. To speed up healing, you can try adding hyperbaric oxygen, lymphatic massage, venus legacy or exilis radiofrequency treatments. To improve final results, we will often do a kybella and ultherapy about 4-6 weeks after neck liposuction to get more of an outcome. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

The fortunate thing here is it's probably not permanent.  Fibrosis, the stiff hard quality to the tissue you're experiencing, is usually most pronounced the 2-3 week after the procedure.  You're looks a little vigorous.  I'd see your surgeons every two weeks or so.  Inquire about massage.  Inquire about steroid or 5-FU injections and take it from there.  The good news is the stiffness and discomfort should resolve regardless.  It's alway possible for one patient to have a stronger immunologic reaction to surgery than another.  Chase Lay MD
