I have peri oral dermatitis. I am having Fraxel on my whole face and upper and lower eyes. Will it make my condition worse?

This condition has been persistent for three years... It gets better and then seems to break out overnight...any suggestions and will Fraxel make it worse? I take Oracea 40 mg daily and use Metronidazole gel on my face.

Fraxel is unlikely to cause dermatitis around the eyes and mouth. Typically this condition can be treated with oral anti-antibiotics and topical rosacea.

I have had some patients flare
with Fraxel – maybe have your doctor up the dose of doxycycline for the
procedure and do dilute vinegar soaks after treatment.

The basics of perioral dermatitis usually stem from an allergy to fluoride in toothpaste and mouthwash. Stop using that and about 90% of the time perioral dermatitis goes away. Find a toothpaste without fluoride like Tom's Natural. The Fraxel won't spread the perioral dermatitis, but since Fraxel can make the skin feel dry and tight, this is going to make the perioral dermatitis feel pretty terrible too.
