My acne cleared in the first few weeks. It's been 3 months, can I stop taking it early? What are the chances it comes back?

I've been on Accutane for 3 months and my acne completely cleared in the first few weeks and hasn't come back at all. I am struggling with some of the side effects and was wondering if its possible for it to have cleared more quickly and that I could possibly stop taking it early since its worked so well? Are the chances it comes back high? I had minor to moderate cystic acne to begin with.

Accutane is a go-to medication for patients with recalcitrant cystic acne. It can reduce pore size and also reduce sebum production in your skin, making it less oily; and in turn, dryer. Accutane can be used to control acne, but patients receiving the medication should be carefully monitored. In terms of skincare, always wear an appropriate sunscreen and reduce direct sun exposure. In my patients, I recommend a good ceramide moisturizer such as Elevase whenever they are on Accutane. This will keep the skin hydrated and reduce the oiliness of the skin that is associated with oil-based moisturizers.

Hello! 
I am glad that Accutane is working so quickly for you.  It is a fantastic medicine, but as you know it does carry some pretty annoying side effects.
Regarding your question, studies have shown that achieving a cumulative dose of 100-120 mg/kg seems to give the highest chance of prolonged improvement.  It is unlikely you achieved that in 3 months.  
If the side effects are particularly annoying, sometimes decreasing the dose can be helpful. 
Naturally, that does require a longer course of treatment.
