Nose scar revision after mohs? (Photo)

Question

7 week old scar on nose after mohs surgery. I had botched stitches and now I have a large, round, depressed scar. I have been using scar gel on it for several weeks. The color has improved slightly but not the indentation, making my nose appear crooked from head on. If I continue to see no improvement in the appearance of this scar, what options do I have to revise/remove it? Thanks in advance for any advice.

It takes 6-12 months to get final cosmetic results after most repairs. Scar gel containing silicone and sunscreen (e.g. BioCorneum) is a good option during the early post-operative months. Another option would be to meet with another doctor who performs a large amount of nasal reconstruction surgeries and discuss your options. Sometimes a pulsed dye laser can be used to decrease redness or dilated blood vessels. Other times dermabrasion can be useful to soften the scar with the surrounding skin. If asymmetry persists, scar revision may be necessary, perhaps utilizing a flap to recruit tissue and repair the asymmetry. Best option... see a doctor who performs a large number of various flaps and grafts and reconstruction on the nose and talk about your specific situation. Good luck.

I would recommend laser surgery which will help blend the edges so it diminishes the appearance of the scar. These include erbium and fractional lasers.The color (pink/red) will fade with time, but that can also be treated with a laser to make it less apparent.
