Do nose fillers create scar tissue?

Volumetric fillers have been injected into the nose for a non-operative rhinoplasty. They can help with the dorsum and some tip issues. If a rhinoplasty is planned, a hyaluronic based filler would be recommended because of less permanent scarring. The fillers should last about a year in the nose and can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Calcium based fillers, like Radiesse, can be injected in the nose, but should be reserved for post-rhinoplasty contour abnormalities along the dorsum. Hyaluronic based gels are good for post-rhinoplasty tip issues. Radiesse has been found to be too inflammatory in the tip.

If you use a filler that simulate collagen like Artefill or Radiesse or Silcone you can develop a "scar" under the skin that gives a more permanent like result.  I used to do these types of fillers, and patients who later want rhinoplasty/nose jobs are likely to need more extensive or difficult surgery.  Thus, I changed to only doing HA type fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero ect) on the nose.  They can be reversed if needed, do not affect later having surgery, and are very easy to make perfect.  I do this procedure frequently with excellent results, however, I see many complications from other practitioners.  Caution who you go to for treatment.  Best, Dr. Emer.
