Generally, light workouts should be reasonable after a month or so, depending on how you are healing. I would avoid arm exercise for a few more weeks to avoid aggravating the surgical sites. Before starting to work out, you should check with your surgeon's office to see what their recommendations are as every surgeon has their own postoperative exercise protocols. Good luck!
Thank you for your question regarding when it’s safe to resume working out after your arm lift. While recovery timelines can vary depending on your specific surgery and healing progress, here’s a general guideline:Most patients can typically resume light activities, such as walking, within the first week after surgery. However, for more strenuous activities like going to the gym, it’s essential to wait at least 6 to 8 weeks before incorporating weightlifting, resistance training, or any exercise that heavily involves your arms. This waiting period allows the incisions to heal and reduces the risk of complications such as delayed healing, scar widening, or suture damage. Before resuming your workout routine, consult with your plastic surgeon to ensure your body is ready. Your surgeon may clear you for lower-body exercises or activities that don’t strain your arms earlier than 6 to 8 weeks, depending on your healing progress.Good luck on your recovery journey and getting back to the gym! Always prioritize healing to ensure the best long-term results.Sincerely,Dr. Katzen
Thank you for your question! For my patients having an arm lift, I recommend taking 3 weeks off of cardio at the gym, and 6 weeks off of weight training and yoga exercises. I recommend discussing specific instructions with your board certified plastic surgeon. Best of luck!
The exact answer for that depends on your swelling and healing. In general people need to minimize their use of the arm and avoid stretching for at least 4 weeks. At that point you usually can start lifting and getting more strenuous. Between 4-6 weeks I suggest slow increase in weight lifted and vigorousness of activity, but do not go to extreme of lifting or exercise (bench pressing/kick boxing) until at least 6 weeks. Certainly make sure you get the go ahead from your surgeon before trying anything extreme, as that time table may be different if you have any wound healing problems or special circumstances.
Recommendation would be 5 weeks prior to heavy exercise. Start gently after 5 weeks and progress gradually. Also it is recommended to wear a support sleeve for 6 weeks. Christian Drehsen, MD
Greetings,It is important to allow adequate time for incisions to heal. Usually by 4 weeks, you can resume cardio activities. If you are going to do vigorous exercise or stretching, will require a longer time to resume, usually 6 - 8 weeks. Before resuming any exercise program after surgery, verify with your plastic surgeon to be sure that everything has healed properly and you are prepared for exercise.Have an excellent day!
Thank you for your question. It's usually around 4-6 weeks before you can resume full activities. With that said, it also depends on how you are healing. If you had any wound healing issues, then I would probably wait a little longer. In any case, I would start with light activities and gradually build up to full activities. There will be some stretching and some pulling in the beginning. I would follow up with your surgeon for clarification.
Thank you for your question. It usually about a month and also depending on how the healing. Please clarify from your PS
I know you'll hate to hear this, but you really need to ask your surgeon for clearance. For my patients, I want to examine them and ensure that everything is adequately healed before resuming full activity. Usually this corresponds to about 6 weeks. However, I encourage my patients to start walking and resuming low-intensity aerobic activity soon after surgery to stay fit.
Thank you for your question about limited arm mobility four weeks after your arm lift. Based on your description, the tightness and pulling sensation you're experiencing could be related to the normal healing process. After an arm lift, the incision along the inner arm tightens the skin and...
This is a difficult issue to address over the internet. There are certainly nerves in the arm that can get trapped in scar tissue as your arms heal after an arm lift. This can be painful as you move your arm, since the nerve is stretched and irritated with the movement. Aggressive massage at the...
