There is only one study (at the time of me writing this!) in women that would suggest any relationship betwen sunscreens and FFA. More studies are on the way. It is far far too early to make any broad recommendations based on this single study. It sure is interesting but we certainly do not know definitively sunscreens are implicated in FFA. There has been some attention given to the possible role of titanium dioxide in sunscreens but again more research is needed. Second and most importantly- we don’t know if changing sunscreens once FFA develops makes any difference. It certainly might .... but studies with high numbers are needed. These are the early days of understanding the true relationship of sunscreens and FFA. Be sure to stay tuned over the next months and years.
