Implants: I have a gap (natural gap) between my upper central incisors (front teeth). Can I choose to keep them?

I have a gap (natural gap) between my upper central incisors. I would like to keep my gap. I wear dentures for my 2 front teeth (the two upper central incisors) and my upper lateral incisors are slightly weak and would like implants for the 4 front teeth upper. My biggest worry has been, if I can still keep my gap between my 2 front teeth? Thanks in Advance!

None of the other Drs who answered this question asked about the height of your lip when you smile. If you were considering getting 4 implants and you have a high smile line, then the result may be very unesthetic. Normally when we encounter this situation, which is fairly common, we place implants in the lateral incisor position. We then place a bridge (without a center gap) that goes from one implant all the way across the front to the other implant. I hope you found this information to be helpful,Dr Champag

Yes, you can keep the gap the dentist will have to do a work up with the laboratory and treatment plan the implant placement very carefully in order to obtain the desired position.

You can certainly keep your gap with implants. That will allow you to continue to look natural and may actually be easier to restore.

This is a great question to discuss with your provider who will be planning the implants and later the crowns. If you specifiy your concerns about still wanting the gaps to remain after implant placement, then he/she can design the crowns with the intention of gaps, or as we call them "diastema" between the teeth!Good luck!
