Thank you for sharing your question. Previous migration does not mean that you will migrate again depending on the filler and injector. I would bring up your issue with migration to the injector before your next treatment.
Hi @Thrifty518249! I recommend dissolving your current lip filler prior to adding more. It is always beneficial for your practitioner to work with a clean canvas. When regions of the lips and skin are overfilled with dermal filler, this can cause filler migration. The overflow of filler will tend to leak into other areas of your face.
Hello and thank you for your question. The fact that you had migration of lip filler before does not mean that it will happen again. I would make sure that your next injection is performed by an experienced injector who has a lot of experience with the type of (FDA-approved) filler that he/she plans to use. I wish you the best of luck. Vasileios Vasilakis, MD. Fellowship-trained plastic surgeon.
Fillers in general and lip fillers in particular should not migrate. Aggressive massage can disperse them over a wider area but migration should not happen. FDA approved lip fillers are: Kysse, Juvederm, and Volbella.
Dear Thrifty518249,,if you had lip filler migration it doesn't mean that it will happen again. I perform a lot of lip injections with fillers such as juvederm and it works great. Many times I need to put more in one side than the other to attempt to even out the vermillion border (The red line of the lip). This helps provide more symmetry at times. For patients looking for a more long lasting result, I recommend fat grafting. That is, using your own bodies fat to make your lips naturally look more shapely. The bonus is that the results last many many years. In general, I avoid using permanent prosthesis because I find that the lips are such dynamic and sensitive structures, the end result is not natural.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
In the majority of cases lip filler migration happens because of the way the injector placed the filler. Find an experienced injector and look at reviews as well as before and after photos and you will avoid this problem.
Filler migration is possible but not highly likely assuming proper injection. It also occurs within the first few days if it does occur so it's easy to detect. In general, if it continues to feel uncomfortable when it does happen, consult your doctor to get a complete assessment or have it dissolved.
I would highly recommend getting a formal evaluation with and treatment from a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and expert in facial sculpting. Technique is the key to a successful lip augmentation with fillers, so you'll want to see someone meticulous. An experienced physician will be...
